Work In Progress

Council is working on their strategic plan with the key strategies to improve or replace aging infrastructure, to provide more housing and business spaces and to grown our business district.

We are in the middle of a renovation for our Town, we are replacing a lot of aging infrastructure, so while we have a beautiful, welcoming community, we don't look our best at the moment.  Like any renovation you have to destroy before you can build and that is where we are today, in the deconstruction phase.  But this is also an exciting time for our community because we get to reimagine what we want for our future.

Infrastructure improvements include an upgraded water treatment plant in 2026.  Continuing to upgrade our water lines to residential areas, replacing aging infrastructure such as old curbstops and block valves, updating sewer systems, and road repairs.

One of the best reasons to choose our community is affordability whether it is the cost to purchase a home, water and sewer rates, or taxes compare us to other places and you will agree. We have lots for development.  We are looking at development options that offer a variety of building types and adding infrastructure to lots that currently have no service.  We are looking to sell residential and commercial lots for development.  As aging buildings on our main street are being removed we are opening up opportunities to build new business spaces and are working as a region to attract businesses.

Location

We are surrounded by rich agricultural land and wildlife habitats.

Being situated on the Canadian National Railways mainline between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Saskatoon has provided significant advantage to the town of Ituna.

In addition, three provincial highways pass through the town ( #15, #52 and #310).  These highways along with a network of primary and secondary grid roads provide access to larger centers and to recreation areas and parks across the province.

The cities of Melville and Yorkton and the Qu'appelle valley are all less than one hour away.  Regina, 90 km southwest, that offer additional facilities including an airport and Mosaic Stadium.

The Importance of Agriculture

The Town of Ituna, the Rural Municipality of Ituna Bon Accord #246 and the Rural Municipality of Tullymet #216 are largely sustained by agriculture, in the form of grain and cereal crops, livestock and hog operations.

The  black soil (mainly Oxbow loam) and good moisture lend themselves to a variety of crops.  Among those crops produced in the area are red spring wheat, barley, oats, rye, oil seeds (canola and flax); specialty crops such as lentils, peas and canary seed.  Beef cattle are the predominant livestock and hay production is also valuable.

Ituna is served by grain handler, Viterra.  As well, numerous trucking services are available to take products to market.
